Bitter Feast
Bitter Feast caught my interest via its trailer, mostly because it stars indie actor Joshua Leonard and sensitive ponytail man from Singles (aka: James LeGros).  Due to a scathingly bad review by JT Franks (Leonard) on his blog, Gastropunks (ha.hahaha), Chef Peter Grey is booted from his restaurant and loses his TV show. It’s hinted that Grey has a lot of other mental issues - like being...

Murder by Numbers: Freddy's Kill Count
Every once in awhile I become obsessed with the number of kills and the ways in which people are dispatched, and I think about actually documenting it for future reference in a nerdy stats kind of way – and thus, I begin with the original seven A Nightmare on Elm Street Films. (I left Freddy Vs. Jason out because I was wrestling with whether the kills he used Jason to facilitate count as his, or...

Case 39: good, bad, meh
I’d been holding out watching Case 39 mostly due to the fact that Bradley Cooper stars in it, and it turns out my instinct to avoid it because of him was right in this case, because omfg he is HORRIBLE in this movie. I mean, look at that photo! That’s him being terrified! Seriously. What.  That said, this movie wasn’t a total wash - because the supporting cast totally killed...

House of Voices
After the trauma Martyrs caused me, I wasn’t sure I wanted to explore another film by Pascal Laugier - but the appeal of a spooky ghost story starring Virginie Ledoyen was too damn strong to ignore. Luckily, House of Voices is nowhere near as brutal. But there are a few scenes (one in particular, at the very end) that might be a little much for the faint of heart. Anna (Ledoyen) arrives...

The House of the Devil
Ti West’s The House of the Devil blew me away on multiple levels, not the least of which is that he just f’ing NAILED the 1980s look and feel of the thing. I mean, seriously.  Usually when I watch films set in the 80s, I feel like I’m watching a cheap imitation of that era with bad costumes and all the wrong props. But West got it, to the point where if I wasn’t such a...

Demons, Italian Style
Continuing with my Italian horror theme - Demoni And Demoni 2 are two more films I was obsessed with in my teen years. Shortly after discovering Argento, I did some research (which in those pre-internet days meant visiting a lot of video stores and talking to people FACE TO FACE. Shocking, I know) that he produced both of these Lamberto Bava-directed films. They still suffer from bad dubbing and...

Argento's Le tre madri
I’ve been a huge Argento fan ever since I rented Suspiria in my teens, and at some point in the late 80s/early 90s, Argento, Bava, and Fulci films were the only horror movies I would watch. To play a little bit of catch-up on 31 Horror Films in 31 Days - I decided to re-review Le tre madri - his Three Mothers Triology.  Suspiria (1977)  Arguably the most beloved of the trilogy, Suspiria is...

Screaming my way through Halloween Horror Nights
Pictured above: Eli Roth’s Hostel: Hunting Season Maze I am still in shock and awe at how completely and totally awesome Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights was. My throat was sore from screaming, and I swear I injured some muscles from hunching over, tensing up, and running in a crouched position. So funny how every time I went into a maze, I thought I wasn’t going to be scared, but...

The Human Centipede News Network →
Because my friend Rich and I are ridiculous, he kicked around the idea of creating HCNN and I said I would contribute if he set it up…which he did. So yeah. It’s um. Live.   The funniest part? Rich doesn’t like bloody disgusting movies. So he’s never seen HC, and will never see HC2, even though he’s AT Fantastic Fest right now.  Yeah, we’re weirdos.

WatchWatch
More horror-vertising! This one is by a Dutch Animal Rights group. Pretty gruesome, yeah? Man, why don’t we have advertising like this? Check out the stills over on Animal also.
