“Do you ever grieve for the lives you never lived?”

SOMNIUM follows aspiring actress Gemma who has left her small town and a serious romance behind in order to move to LA and pursue her goal of becoming a famous actress. Fighting against the naysayers at home and her own doubts about her talent, Gemma takes a job working the overnight shift at a mysterious sleep clinic called Somnium.

On its surface, the Sonimum process is a unique therapeutic treatment: guests work with a dream architect to create the perfect combination of inspiration and confidence in their dreams, resulting in renewed drive and happiness when they awake. Unfortunately (as is the case with most mysterious clinics), Somnium has a much darker secret – and as Gemma watches over the clinics’ sleeping guests, she gets pulled into a waking nightmare of terrifying visions.

This haunting sci-fi/thriller is a solid first feature effort from Director Racheal Cain, showing promise for her art of creating story, setting, and suspense. As Gemma, Chloë Levine delivers a jaw-droppingly perfect performance. You can feel every emotion she goes through on her journey.

And though it’s not too hard to guess where things will end up, the ride to get there is highly enjoyable! Shoutout to Johnathon Schaech in a cameo role: rockin’ pure white hair as an eccentric Producer. I also LOVED the score; synthy vintage vibes.

SOMNIUM is available to rent or own on Digital HD, including Apple TV, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
