Theo (Paige Evans) and Colby (Cameron Cuffe) are on the way to enjoy a couples weekend in the desert at a picturesque Air BnB … along with Theo’s free-spirited sister Katie (Riley Dandy), invited along at the last minute after a bad breakup.
From the jump, the house’s hosts Mr. and Mrs. Martinson (played by horror legends Dee Wallace and Bruce Davison) are a little sus: they leave a noxious plant as a welcome gift, seem annoyed when Katie arrives as a third guest, and appear to be overly invested in the couple’s relationship. As tensions rise between the three young guests, Theo discovers that the Martinson’s have very sinister intentions.
GODMOTHER gives you a taste of what’s to come in its opening scene, but that doesn’t make the journey any less suspenseful! I’m a diehard Dee Wallace fan, and it was an absolute joy to see her work in this film, with Davison playing against her perfectly. Paige Evans is also amazing and holds her own against these two iconic actors.
Director/Co-Writer John Veron and Co-Writer Alanah Pearce combine its supernatural and slasher elements expertly, creating a story with lots of fun surprises! And I have to mention the really, really cool creature design.
Mrs. Martinson’s quote above echoes how I feel: I’ll be taking this ride again, and again.
