It’s Halloween night and spellcaster Neve (Tess Williams) gathers her coven in the forest to plan the abduction of the perfect sacrifice: one whose death will raise their all powerful goddess to bring death and destruction forth from across the veil.
THE HERETIKS follows that sacrifice, Mabel (Ava Mae Seidensticker), and her mess of an older sister, Ada (Josie Juliette Wert), as they both navigate the loss of their mother and their new family dynamic–which neither one is particularly happy about. When another all-powerful witch named Kai (Kimberly Epstein) shows up to protect Mabel from the others, all must work together to keep the coven from completing their mission.
Director Gregg Bishop delivers with a wildly entertaining ride, and the screenplay co-written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (THE NIGHT HOUSE & HELLRAISER 2022) is a nostalgia-packed gem that makes you really care about the plight of these two sisters.
Shout-out to every single cast member: Williams nails it as the evil Neve, both Seidensticker and Wert bring authenticity to their roles and relationship, and Epstein was great as the conflicted Kai.
This one is just so! much! fun! Home invasion meets supernatural chaos with really, really cool practical F/X and a great story at its heart. It was giving me old-school 80s & 90s Full Moon Productions vibes—and I absolutely LOVED it.
